Two researchers from the Faculty of Health Sciences and Technology of UGANC and the Center for Research and Training in Infectiology of Guinea – CERFIG, are shining on the international scientific scene. Professors Abdoulaye Touré and Alpha Kabinet Keita were selected as winners of the prestigious “Christophe Mérieux 2025 Prize” for their scientific research devoted to emerging zoonoses and the prevention of infectious diseases.
Awarded by the Christophe and Rodolphe Mérieux Foundation and with a budget of 500,000 euros, the Christophe Mérieux Prize was launched in 2007 to support research in developing countries carried out by scientists.
Their projects oriented towards medical research.
This Prize was awarded to these two scientists whose publications on their research work are published in the largest journals in the world, for their research project entitled “Emerging zoonoses”, which tend to highlight the necessary surveillance in risky contexts, in relation to pandemics with increasing vulnerability.
Recognition for Guinean scientific excellence
The decision to honor researchers from the FSTS and CERFIG, a research center affiliated with the Gamal Abdel Nasser University of Conakry – UGANC, is an act of international recognition, if not of the dynamism that we want to establish around scientific research in Guinea, at least of the involvement of Guinean scientists in the fight against infectious diseases and for the improvement of public health in the world.
The award ceremony “2025 Christophe Mérieux Prize” will be held on Wednesday June 18, 2025, under the Dome of the Palace of the Institut de France, during the solemn session of proclamation of the Grands Prix of the Institut de France. However, this award is not without significance for scientific research in Guinea, because it is the beginning of more committed perspectives in the detection and prevention of zoonoses.
CERFIG is the center of excellence in medical research.
CERFIG, a leading national medicinal research center in Guinea and Africa, continues to strengthen its commitment to producing science. This international distinction is recognition of its legitimate place in the system for developing research capacities and training researchers.
