This Saturday, the Abdel Nasser University of Conakry (UGANC) organized a solemn ceremony celebrating academic excellence in health sciences. On this occasion, 145 doctors received their Specialized Studies Diploma, while 30 teacher-researchers registered on the CAMES aptitude lists received their satisfaction, in the presence of the Ministry of Health, university authorities, families and partners in the health sector.
Useful training, strategic training
Professor Alpha Kabinet KEITA, rector of UGANC, placed this ceremony under the sign of responsibility and public service. “No country can sustainably develop with a university disconnected from the needs of society, economic priorities and the imperatives of sovereignty,” recalled Professor Alpha Kandet KEITA.
For the rector, the training of medical specialists constitutes a strategic resource for the reform of the health system, capable of improving the quality of care, securing public health and producing reliable data for public decisions. He also highlighted the university’s role in national security, integrating biohazards and emerging threats into national expertise.
“Training is no longer enough. We need to train better, train usefully, train strategically”, insisted Professor KEITA, saluting all the winners for their academic rigor and professional ethics.
Scientific sovereignty rediscovered
Professor Mohamed Cissé, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences and Techniques, at the Gamal Abdel Nasser University of Conakry recalled the historical importance of these diplomas: “Talking about specialization in Guinea inevitably rhymes with expatriation. Today, training at home is not a choice by default, it is a strategic and pragmatic choice”, affirmed Professor Cissé.
The Dean highlighted three pillars of training: contextual immersion, the continuum of care and local mentoring. These pillars ensure that new specialists are ready to meet the health needs of the entire country, from the technical platform of Conakry to the most remote areas.
The figures of excellence
Guinean medicine is reaching a new milestone with the integration of 146 new specialists into the health system. “This session includes 21 obstetrician-gynecologists, 20 neurologists, 20 pulmonologists, 19 general and visceral surgeons, 17 cardiologists, 13 dermatologist-venereologists, 12 pediatricians and 11 family doctors. Added to this are 7 nephrologists, 4 urologists and 2 forensic medicine specialists. report the UGANC authorities.
These figures are not simple statistics, they illustrate the rise of specialized medical training in Guinea, and above all the improved access to quality care throughout the national territory. Each graduate represents a key link in the country's health chain, ready to transform the lives of thousands of patients.

Academic excellence honored by CAMES
At the same time, UGANC celebrated 30 teacher-researchers registered on the CAMES suitable lists during the 47th session of the Inter-African Consultative Committees (CCI) in N’Djamena, Chad in 2025. Among them, 28 assistant professors, 1 lecturer and 1 full professor.
This distinction strengthens the credibility and international visibility of the university and illustrates the institution's desire to promote scientific and academic excellence in Guinea.
Testimonies and emotions
Doctor Mamadou Zakariaou SOW, specialist in general surgery and recipient, shared his pride. “ With hard work and family support, we succeeded. We do not intend to stay here, we want to evolve and serve our country,” says Dr. SOW.
For the associate Dr. Thierno Mamadou Oury DIALLO, the CAMES aggregation represents a heavy responsibility. “This journey was long and demanding, but thanks to our teachers and supervisors, we succeeded. Our mission is to transmit knowledge and contribute to improving the health system throughout the country,” says Dr. DIALLO.
A ceremony, a symbol for the future
The Minister of Health and Public Hygiene, Dr. Oumar Diouhé Bah, returned to the strategic importance of specialized training. For the minister, this parchment is the symbol of long years of rigor, sacrifices and responsibilities assumed in the service of the patient. “You are now key players in the profound transformation of our health systems,” insists the minister.

Between the official speeches, the testimonies and the awarding of diplomas, this ceremony illustrates the rise of Guinea in the field of health and academic research, and confirms UGANC's commitment to training experts capable of responding to national and continental health challenges.
