Covid-19: does being vaccinated allow you to forget barrier gestures?

More and more Guineans have been vaccinated against the coronavirus. But what can we really afford afterwards? Forget the mask? Physical distancing? Barrier gestures? We take stock.
“The vaccinated person is approximately 50% protected after the first dose,”would like to reassure Doctor Mamadou Oury Safiatou Diallo, specialist in infectious and tropical diseases at Donka University Hospital, also Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Medicine. Although a second dose is necessary to optimize the effects of the vaccine; because the first dose offers a little less protection than what the studies have shown, but we are at rates greater than 70% of effectiveness.
One week for complete protection
For protection to begin, it takes 10 to 12 days after the first dose. Once the second dose has been administered, knowing that you are already protected with the first dose; it only takes one week after the second injection for complete protection.
“It takes around ten days after the second dose for the person to be fully protected. Furthermore, remember that protection is not 100% even after the second dose of vaccine,”recalls Doctor Oury, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Medicine.
Respecting barrier gestures slows the spread of the virus
If the different vaccines have been developed to prevent contagion, but the vaccine has an activity on transmission. It is not 100%, but it helps to reduce transmission when you are vaccinated, although strict compliance with barrier gestures puts a considerable brake on the spread of the virus.“The vaccinated person may well contract the disease and therefore transmit the disease, hence maintaining barrier gestures, wearing bibs and washing hands,”assures the infectious disease specialist.
There are two possibilities in which a vaccinated person can be tested again for coronavirus: if contagion occurs between the injection and the effectiveness of the vaccine, in particular before the second dose. In other cases, you can be contaminated again but in an extremely mild form.“The vaccinated person may indeed be positive for covid-19,”warns Doctor Mamadou Oury Safiatou Diallo.
Although designed to protect severe forms of covid-19, the vaccines on the market can, by definition, also protect mild forms.“The vaccine protects against both severe and mild forms,» says Doctor Oury Diallo.
Should you continue to wear a mask? Should we keep social distancing?
The recommendation today is to ask vaccinated people to continue to respect barrier gestures and in particular the wearing of a mask. It is necessary for everyone to be careful.
