Covid-19 in Faranah: the consequences of the pandemic have left the livestock sector suffering

The effects of the coronavirus on the livestock sector are still widely recognized and are fully felt in the lives of breeders and meat consumers in Faranah. Formal assessments have not yet been possible, but current observations reveal disruptions in animal sectors. The deputy prefectural director of livestock in Faranah, Abdoulaye Dramé, told us about the difficulties encountered so far since the start of the pandemic, at Universciences.

Undoubtedly, the livestock sector, like others, has suffered enormous disruptions in the smooth running of activities. It was necessary to immediately find palliative measures to avoid a total shutdown of the sector.

“The livestock sector joined forces with the prefectural health department, we created a joint association, “health for all”, we set up a committee, I belonged to the committee; we went out with the DPS team, to go to the sub-prefectures, to raise awareness, to inform our parents widely to be able to fight against covid-19", recalled Abdoulaye Dramé, deputy prefectural director of livestock in Faranah.

The first arrangements of the Management

The Faranah prefectural livestock management department has also taken steps to call on breeders to be more vigilant, especially to avoid animal meats and also to respect the barrier gestures decreed by the National Health Security Agency.

“From the start of the pandemic, management asked all breeders to avoid contact with bush meat at this time. And also to avoid the slaughter of wild animals, since it is said that contact with these animals can be the basis of contact with the disease. explained the deputy prefectural director of livestock.

The heavily affected sector

However, the livestock sector was strongly impacted by the blocking of transhumant herders and the drastic reduction of trade in the weekly markets which were closed for a good while.
